Beginning in Kathmandu, the route crosses the Nepal & Tibet border at Kerung and gradually ascends onto the vast Tibetan Plateau, allowing proper acclimatization while showcasing breathtaking scenery along the way.

Kathmandu (1,300m) – Kerung Border (145 km | 6–7 hours drive)
After an early morning breakfast at your hotel in Kathmandu, begin a scenic drive towards the Kerung Border, traveling through the beautiful Nepalese countryside. The journey offers stunning views of lush green hills, flowing rivers, terraced farmlands, and traditional villages along the Trishuli River corridor. Upon arrival at Rasuwagadhi, the Nepal–Tibet border, complete the necessary immigration and customs formalities on the Nepalese side. After border clearance, proceed towards Chinese immigration, which normally involves an adventurous one-hour uphill drive by bus or jeep. In case of landslides, this section may require an approximately two-hour uphill walk. After completing Chinese immigration procedures, meet your Tibetan guide and continue the drive to Kerung town, if not staying at the border area. Check in to your hotel and spend the rest of the day resting and acclimatizing to the altitude. Overnight stay at a pilgrimage hotel in Kerung.

Kerung – Tingri (4,300m) / Lhatse (4,350m)
After breakfast at the hotel, begin your drive deeper into Tibet, gradually ascending toward the vast Tibetan Plateau. The landscape changes dramatically as wide open grasslands, snow-capped mountains, and endless horizons unfold before you, creating the unforgettable feeling of standing on the “Roof of the World.” Weather permitting, enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of majestic Himalayan peaks, including Mount Cho Oyu (8,201 meters) and Mount Xishapangma (8,012 meters). From Tingri, you may also witness the magnificent sight of Mount Everest (8,848 meters) rising above the surrounding plateau in the distance. Continue the drive to Tingri or Lhatse as per the day’s schedule, then check in to your hotel. The remainder of the day is free for rest and acclimatization. Overnight stay at the Rooftop of the World Hotel in Tingri or Lhatse.

Following an early breakfast, set out on a scenic drive toward Ronbuk, home to the highest monastery in the world. The route offers spectacular Himalayan scenery, rugged Tibetan terrain, and awe-inspiring mountain vistas. Upon arrival in Ronbuk, begin exploring the area before proceeding on a short hike toward the Everest Base Camp on the North Face, subject to weather and road conditions. Spend meaningful time at Everest Base Camp, taking photographs and experiencing the spiritual atmosphere in the presence of the world’s highest mountain. Afterward, return to Ronbuk and visit the historic Ronbuk Monastery, with the opportunity to interact with monks if time permits. Overnight stay at a guesthouse or lodge in Ronbuk.

After breakfast at the lodge, depart Ronbuk and continue your journey toward Shigatse, the second-largest city in Tibet. The drive is scenic and memorable, crossing the high-altitude Gyatchu La Pass at 5,220 meters, the highest pass on the route to Lhasa. Enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and expansive Tibetan plateau along the way. Pass through Lhatse, a key junction where the road to Mount Kailash diverges westward, before continuing onward to Shigatse. Upon arrival, check in to your hotel and enjoy a relaxed evening, with time to explore nearby markets or rest. Overnight stay at Gesar Hotel in Shigatse.

Shigatse – Gyantse – Lhasa (Approx. 350 km)
After breakfast, begin the day with a visit to the famous Tashilhunpo Monastery, the traditional seat of the Panchen Lama and one of Tibet’s most important religious centers. Continue driving toward the historic town of Gyantse, where you will visit the impressive Kumbum Stupa, a magnificent multi-storied structure, as well as the nearby Phalkor Monastery. The journey then continues on a full-day scenic drive toward Lhasa, crossing high mountain passes including Karola Pass (5,010 meters) and Kambala Pass (4,749 meters). Stop along the way to admire the breathtaking turquoise waters of Yamdrok-Tso Lake, one of Tibet’s most sacred lakes, before crossing the mighty Brahmaputra River (Yarlung Tsangpo). Arrive in Lhasa in the evening, check in to your hotel, and rest. Overnight stay at Xing Ding Hotel.
