Trip Overview
The Kailash Mansarovar Pilgrimage Tour is a trail of emotional and spiritual significance to people worldwide. Mount Kailash Yatra encompasses two major religious sites: Mount Kailash and Mansarovar Lake. At 6,638 meters above sea level, Mt. Kailash is considered one of the most religiously revered mountains for Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, and Bon followers.
Mansarovar Lake stands tall at an altitude of 4,588 meters with crystal clear water. It is believed that one dip in this lake washes off all evil from the soul. The serene environment around the lake, surrounded by snow-capped peaks, offers a perfect setting for reflection and meditation.
The Mount Kailash Yatra is physically demanding, especially during the Kailash Parikrama, which is roughly a 52-kilometer-long route. It usually takes three days to walk and includes crossing over the Dolma La Pass at an altitude of 5,630 meters. The landscape can be pretty challenging, but the physical and spiritual payoff is well worth it.
En route, the visitors stop at important monasteries, including Diraphuk and Zutulphuk, to rest and attend to their spiritual matters. Other landmark locations along the route include Gauri Kund, which is considered the source of the Indus River. Kathmandu is the starting point for one's journey, where pilgrims prepare for it. From Kathmandu, one journeys into Tibet, crossing the border via Kerung. Throughout the way, the scenery is breathtakingly beautiful. It is a pleasing scenic view and allows one to intermingle and share spiritual experiences with fellow pilgrims. Mount Kailash Yatra is a physical journey to spiritual awakening and self-discovery. For many pilgrims, it is the experience of their lives in which they connect with something greater than themselves.

After an early breakfast, proceed to Nepalgunj Airport for a scenic mountain flight to Simikot, the gateway to northwestern Nepal and the Kailash route. The flight crosses stunning Himalayan terrain, offering panoramic views. Due to unpredictable weather patterns in the mountains, the flight is scheduled early in the morning when conditions are typically calmer.
Simikot, located at 2910 meters (9545 ft), is used as an acclimatization stop. The area has a STOL (Short Take Off and Landing) airport, meaning only small aircraft can land here. The helicopter flight from Simikot to Hilsa takes approximately 25 minutes (one way). The flight route passes through the deep Karnali River gorge and narrow, remote valleys, where the weather usually turns windy and cloudy from late morning onward. Therefore, we aim to operate more shuttle flights early in the morning and transport all group members to Hilsa.
We operate a Eurocopter (B3) that can carry up to 5 persons and 10 kg of luggage at a time. Since the helicopter has limited capacity to carry, we kindly request that you refrain from carrying any unnecessary items. We use two helicopters at a time, allowing us to airlift our group members to Hilsa as soon as possible.
After all group members shift to Hilsa by helicopter, you will cross the border and then drive to Taklakot (Purang). According to the visa rules of the Chinese government, all group members must enter and exit together. Therefore, until all members arrive in Hilsa, no one can cross the border.

DRIVE FROM MANASAROVAR TO YAMA DWARA - THEN TREK TO DERAPHUK
Breakfast: 07 am
Morning religious activities at Lake Manasoravara, like Puja/Hawn/ Bath at Manasoravara
Today is the highlight day of our journey. The most exciting part, the sacred circumambulation around Kailash, commences today from Yama Dwara. In the morning, after breakfast, we depart from the lake strand to Yama Dwara (also called 'Tarboche' in Tibetan), which takes approximately one and a half hours to reach. We should make a brief halt in Darchen because some travel documents have been obtained from local Police and Army officials, and we also need to make a group entry into the region. From Darchen, it is another half an hour to reach Yama Dwara. Our Yaks, porters, and horses are waiting here for us. Those who are making circumambulation around Kailash on foot can instantly proceed to Deraphuk; the rest of the members can commence their journey after taking their horse/s and porter/s. The Total walk to Deraphuk is for 5-6 hours, but the timing depends on your own pace. The route is quite easy, flat, but mild ascent. Due to its extreme elevation, we feel tired while walking and often need to take a break frequently.

DERAPHUK TO ZUTULPHUK
Today, you have to cross a significant distance through the rugged portion of the trail around Mount Kailash before reaching Zutulpahuk. You have to commence your journey from Deraphuk very early in the morning. Right from the initial moment, the trail commences leading you rapidly up, however, in between it turns into flat with a gentle ascent. Up to Dolma-La (5,600 m.), the path keeps you taking you up and up. Dolma La is the highest point of this journey. From here onward, the trail leads you down to the valley floor. This particular portion of the trek is a rapid incline, and the track is full of boulders and screes, so one should pay continued attention while trekking down. While descending from Dolma La, we will pass alongside a small glacial pool, which is almost frozen from May through September. This is Gaurikunda. The legend of this pool is connected with Mata Parvati, the consort of lord Shiva.
Once we make a descent journey to the valley floor, the trail becomes flat & easy. The trail is easy and flat up to the Zutulphuk.
