Trip Overview

The Gosainkunda Trek is one of the most meaningful short Himalayan treks in Nepal. This trek is special as it allows you to experience a rare combination of natural beauty, spirituality, and culture within a short span of just four days. Gosainkunda Lake is situated in the Langtang National Park at an elevation of approximately 4,380 meters. Gosainkunda is considered one of the most sacred alpine lakes in Nepal. This trek is perfect for those who are interested in experiencing high-altitude trekking without going through a long and arduous trekking experience. The Gosainkunda Trek starts with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Dhunche, which is the administrative headquarters of Rasuwa District. Dhunche serves as the main entry point for the Langtang Region. As you begin your drive northwards from Kathmandu, you see a gradual transition in landscapes from busy city life to serene hilltops, farmlands, rivers, and villages. Starting from Dhunche, the trekking route takes well-trodden paths through dense forests of pine, oak, and rhododendron trees. The gentle climb enables acclimatization, and thus the trek is feasible for novices with average fitness levels. The villages of Deurali and Chandanbari offer warm hospitality and an opportunity to experience the mountain culture. Chandanbari, also known as Sing Gompa, is particularly important because of its monastery, yak cheese factory, and peaceful spiritual environment.
One of the main highlights of the trek is the climb to Lauribinayak, a famous viewpoint with stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. The trail beyond Lauribinayak is more rugged and alpine in nature, taking the trekkers towards the sacred Gosainkunda Lake. The landscape is dramatic and awe-inspiring, with rocky features, low air pressure, and the pristine Himalayan environment. Arrival at Gosainkunda is a moment of emotional and spiritual fulfillment. The lake has a mythological link with Lord Shiva, and devotees from all over the world come here to celebrate special festivals. The lake is surrounded by snow-capped mountains and silence. The blue waters of the lake are a sight to behold, and the silence is a source of peace and reflection. After spending some quality time at the lake, the trekking route goes back to Chandanbari for rest. The last day of the trekking tour involves a comfortable descent to Dhunche and a return journey to Kathmandu. This trekking tour, despite being short, provides a complete Himalayan experience of mountains, culture, spirituality, adventure, and achievement.
