Trip Overview
Bhutan, officially known as the Kingdom of Bhutan, is a small country nestled in the Himalayas and blessed with untouched natural beauty, strong Buddhist traditions, and a tranquil way of life that makes it stand apart from the rest of the world. Located between India and China, it is also known as the “Land of the Thunder Dragon” because of the thunderous storms that occur in the Himalayas. However, it’s the philosophy of Gross National Happiness that makes Bhutan stand apart from all other countries. While other countries race to become increasingly modernized, Bhutan has chosen to remain a tranquil oasis in a chaotic world. Visiting Bhutan is not just about sightseeing; it’s about experiencing a country where nature, spirituality, and culture are all in perfect harmony. This 6 Nights / 7 Days Bhutan tour package will take you through some of the most iconic places in the country, including Thimphu, Punakha, and Paro. Each of these places offers a different insight into Bhutan's heritage, landscape, and spiritual practices, making for a well-balanced and fulfilling experience. The journey starts in the beautiful valley of Paro, which is the only international airport in Bhutan and is surrounded by high mountains, green rice fields, and Bhutanese houses. The Paro Valley is the entry point to Bhutan and immediately introduces visitors to its peaceful atmosphere and rich culture. The journey then proceeds to Thimphu, Bhutan's capital, the epitome of a blend of traditional and modern culture. Thimphu is the only capital in the world that does not have traffic lights anywhere in the city. All buildings in Thimphu are designed in traditional Bhutanese architecture. The capital houses many important government offices, monasteries, museums, and cultural institutions that promote Bhutanese culture and protect Bhutanese identity and heritage. Visitors can see monks praying in monasteries, artists making traditional crafts, and people wearing traditional Bhutanese attire in their daily lives.
From there, the journey continues to Punakha, which is considered one of the most beautiful and historic valleys in Bhutan. As it is located at a lower altitude, it has a relatively warmer climate and beautiful scenery, with rice fields, rivers, and jacaranda trees. Punakha is considered a historic valley because it was once Bhutan's capital and is now the winter capital of the central monastic body. This valley is blessed with magnificent fortress monasteries and is situated where two rivers meet, making it a beautiful place. The drive to Punakha passes through Dochula Pass, a mountain pass adorned with 108 chortens and prayer flags, offering a breathtaking view of the Himalayan range. Another interesting part of this trip is exploring Paro, including its dzongs and museums, as well as mountain passes such as Chele La, one of the highest motorable roads in Bhutan. From this point, tourists are able to see the breathtaking views of the snow-capped Himalayan ranges, including the sacred mountains that are of great spiritual importance to the people of Bhutan. The region is also home to monasteries, temples, rivers, and villages. The most unforgettable experience of my journey has been my hike to Tiger’s Nest Monastery, also known as Paro Taktsang. Located picturesquely on a cliff 900 meters above the valley floor, this sacred monastery is one of the most iconic landmarks of Bhutan. It is said that Guru Padmasambhava, also known as Guru Rinpoche, flew to this monastery on the back of a tigress and meditated here, thereby spreading Buddhism in Bhutan. The hike to the monastery takes one through a pine forest and offers stunning views.
During this journey, tourists will have the chance to experience the unique architecture of Bhutan, which includes fortress monasteries called dzongs, wooden buildings, and temples adorned with unique artwork. In addition, there are prayer wheels, chortens, and monasteries located in the valleys and mountain passes. This ensures a spiritual feeling at all times. Bhutan’s geographical location offers a range of unique landscapes from green valleys and rivers to mountain passes and the snow-capped Himalayas. This ensures an opportunity to explore the unique landscapes and scenery. This 7-day itinerary in Bhutan is suitable for tourists who are interested in exploring the culture, spirituality, driving through the Himalayas, and engaging in adventure. This itinerary will provide a unique balance of sightseeing, relaxation, and spiritual experiences. In Bhutan, every moment is an opportunity to connect with nature and discover spirituality. From exploring the peaceful valleys and monasteries to hiking to mountain temples, Bhutan has everything to offer.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is the best time to visit Bhutan for this tour?
The best time to visit Bhutan is during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) seasons. In spring, the valleys and hillsides are covered with blooming rhododendrons, while autumn offers clear skies and breathtaking Himalayan views, perfect for photography and outdoor activities. Summer (June to August) is the monsoon season and can bring heavy rainfall, making trekking trails slippery, whereas winter (December to February) is cold but ideal for travelers who prefer fewer crowds and snow-capped mountains.
2. Is a Bhutan visa required for this tour?
Yes, all international travelers require a Bhutan visa before entering the country. The visa is arranged through a licensed Bhutanese tour operator, which in this case would be included in your tour package. The visa process requires passport copies and confirmation of travel dates. Once approved, the visa is stamped on arrival at Paro International Airport. Travelers are advised to submit visa applications well in advance to avoid delays, especially during peak tourist seasons.
3. How hard is the hike to Tiger’s Nest?
The hike to Tiger’s Nest is moderately difficult and takes about 4-5 hours round-trip. The hike is a gradual climb through pine forests with prayer flags and stunning views of the valleys below. While it is a challenging hike, it is doable for reasonably fit people. For people who may have difficulty with the hike, horses are available for the first part of the hike, but the final part has to be done on foot. Hiking boots, light clothing, and water are essential for a safe and enjoyable hike.
4. Are there any health concerns or altitude sickness?
The Paro Valley and Thimphu are at an altitude of 2,200 to 2,600 meters, Punakha is at an altitude of 1300m, Chele La Pass is at an altitude of 3,988 meters, while Tiger’s Nest is at 3,120 meters, and this can lead to mild altitude sickness, such as shortness of breath or tiredness. It is essential to drink plenty of fluids, hike slowly, and rest when hiking. People with serious heart or lung problems should consult their doctors before traveling. It is always a good idea to carry a small first aid kit and any personal medications. Most people find that they acclimatize well to this altitude.
5. What kind of accommodation is offered during the tour?
The tour package offers 3-star category accommodations with clean rooms, hot water, and basic facilities. Most hotels are situated close to the city center for convenient access to tourist attractions. Guests can also look forward to comfortable bedding, warm hospitality, and Bhutanese furnishings in some hotels. For those who prefer luxury, 4-star and 5-star hotels with better services, spas, and fine dining are also available on request. The accommodations are pre-booked in advance to ensure availability, especially during peak periods.
6. What meals are included in the tour package?
The tour package includes breakfast at the hotels. Lunch and dinner are not included in the package to give tourists the flexibility to sample Bhutanese cuisine at restaurants and cafes. Traditional Bhutanese dishes such as Ema Datshi (chili cheese), red rice, and momo (Bhutanese dumplings) are widely available and highly recommended. Your guide can also recommend safe and authentic eateries. Special requests such as vegetarian or gluten-free meals should be informed to the tour operator in advance.
7. Will there be opportunities for shopping or exploring on my own?
Yes, there will be opportunities for free time in Thimphu and Paro, usually in the evenings or after the main sightseeing. You can visit local handicraft markets, souvenir shops, and art galleries, where you can buy items such as hand woven fabrics, Bhutanese masks, and thangka paintings. Taking a stroll around the town is also an excellent way to experience the local culture and mingle with the friendly locals. Free time is also a good opportunity to relax and enjoy the Himalayan views at your own pace.
8. What is the size of the group for this tour?
The tour can be organized as a private tour for solo travelers, couples, or small groups, usually ranging from 2 to 40 people. Small group tours provide opportunities for personalized attention, flexibility in the itinerary, and comfortable transportation. Private tours are best suited for those who want a quiet and personalized experience, while larger groups may need to share transportation and may not be as flexible. Your guide will take care of the logistics, provide cultural information, and ensure your safety throughout the tour, irrespective of the size of the group.
9. What kind of transportation is used during the tour?
A private vehicle with a licensed driver is available throughout the tour. Roads connecting Paro to Thimphu are good, and there are scenic Himalayan drives along rivers, valleys, and mountain passes. Vehicles are comfortable, air-conditioned (if available), and suitable for mountain roads. Your guide will be with you to offer cultural information and help with sightseeing arrangements. Transportation to and from Paro International Airport is also included in the transportation services.
10. Is Bhutanese currency required, and can I use cards?
The Bhutanese currency is called Ngultrum (BTN), which is fixed at par with the Indian Rupee (INR). Indian Rupees are widely accepted, but other currencies are not. Major hotels and restaurants accept credit cards, but it is best to use cash for small purchases, souvenirs, and local markets. ATMs are available in Paro and Thimphu, but not all international cards are accepted. Your guide will help with currency exchange and point you to the best places to withdraw cash.
11. Are there any cultural or dress requirements?
Yes, Bhutan places strong emphasis on cultural respect. When visiting dzongs, monasteries, and temples, shoulders and knees should be covered. Modest clothing is required, and shoes must be removed when entering religious sites. Avoid loud behavior or photographing people without permission. Local dress is colorful and distinctive, and visitors are encouraged to learn basic etiquette, such as standing to the left on stairs or walking clockwise around stupas, which demonstrates respect for Bhutanese traditions.
12. Can this tour be customized for specific interests?
Absolutely. While this itinerary is carefully designed to cover Bhutan’s iconic highlights, it can be customized based on traveler preferences. Options include extending the stay for additional hikes, visiting more remote monasteries, arranging cultural workshops, or upgrading accommodations. Families, honeymooners, and adventure seekers can request adjustments to suit their pace and interests. All changes are coordinated with licensed local guides and drivers to ensure safety and a seamless travel experience.
